About Caitriona
“I love working in clay – it’s such a versatile material & there is something deeply satisfying in shaping something with your hands…”
I was born in Co. Wicklow, Ireland & spent much of my 20s in London. I studied Ceramics at Central Saint Martins School of Art.
I have been living and working in Provence, France for the past 20 years.
I simply love making anything in clay and I value the versatility of the material. Everything is built by hand, using either slabs or coils.
My pieces are unique, tactile and joyfully vibrant.
I choose to work in earthenware (red terra cotta or white clay) since the color range of the glazes fired around 1000°C is endless and hugely inspiring.
The forms are usually simple… I am inspired by art, by nature and by food!
Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to choose a specific dish for a special meal; the color and form is highly significant.
Likewise, a vase to showcase beautiful flowers…
I also make large scale sculptures and objects – often whimsical and always one-off.
